Kidney-Tonifying Substitute Teas
Ingredients
- Choose 1–2: leek seed (jiucaizi) 3–5 g, or dodder seed (tusizi) 10 g, or eucommia bark (duzhong) 6–10 g, or goji 10 g (pattern required)
Principle
Leek seed warms and tonifies liver–kidney and secures essence; dodder tonifies kidney and benefits essence; eucommia tonifies liver–kidney and strengthens sinew and bone; goji tonifies liver and kidney. Dongzhimen Hospital andrology chief Li Haisong notes that substitute teas with kidney-tonifying, liver-soothing, and blood-activating herbs may help some kidney-deficiency–related sexual function issues (syndrome differentiation required).
Effects & uses
Daily adjunct for kidney yang or kidney qi deficiency patterns. Rapid ejaculation also arises from damp-heat and excess heat—do not blindly use yang-boosting herbs.
Method
- Steep chosen herbs in boiling water, covered, about 10 minutes.
How to use
- Drink as tea; avoid long-term unsupervised daily use.
Caution
Not for damp-heat or excess heat. Alcohol may lower androgen and raise estrogen—medicinal wine for “yang boosting” is generally discouraged. Not a substitute for andrology care; symptoms over 3 months or loss of morning erections need medical evaluation.
