Ingredients

  • Loquat leaves 10–15g
  • Japonica rice 50g
  • Rock sugar to taste

Principle

Loquat leaf clears the lung, transforms phlegm, descends qi, and stops cough; japonica rice tonifies middle qi; rock sugar moistens the lung.

Effects & uses

Suitable for chronic bronchitis with internal phlegm-heat pattern—cough with yellow sputum or mild fever (syndrome differentiation required).

Method

  1. Wrap loquat leaves in gauze, decoct, strain, and reserve the concentrated liquid.
  2. Add the decoction to japonica rice and water; cook into congee.
  3. When nearly done, add rock sugar and simmer briefly.

How to use

  • Take warm with meals morning and evening.

Caution

Brush off fuzz on the back of loquat leaves thoroughly—otherwise it irritates the throat. Not suitable for cold cough or deficient-cold vomiting. Not a substitute for medication.
