Ingredients

  • Gastrodia (tianma) 10g
  • 1 pigeon
  • Ginger and a little salt

Principle

Gastrodia stops wind spasms, suppresses liver yang, and dispels wind to unblock collaterals; pigeon meat tonifies qi and blood and nourishes kidney qi. The stew pacifies liver wind and tonifies qi and blood, for dizziness related to liver yang rising or internal liver wind (syndrome differentiation required).

Effects & uses

Daily adjunct for cerebral hypoperfusion with liver yang rising—dizziness, head distension (syndrome differentiation required). Neurologist Zhu Yicheng of Peking Union Medical College Hospital notes moderate intake is acceptable, but food cannot replace drugs and effects are usually limited. Not a substitute for standard treatment.

Method

  1. Clean the pigeon and blanch; wash and slice gastrodia; place in a stew pot with ginger and water; double-boil 1–2 hours; season with salt.

How to use

  • Drink broth and eat meat, 1–2 times per week.

Caution

Avoid during common cold with fever. Limited effect when qi-blood deficiency predominates (pale face, fatigue). Daily dietary prescription; not a substitute for medication.
