Daylily and Silk Tree Flower Tea
Ingredients
- Daylily (dried golden needles) 30g
- Silk tree flower (hehuanhua) 30g
- Cyperus (xiangfu) 15g
- Turmeric root (yujin) 15g
- Acorus (changpu) 15g
- Polygala (yuanzhi) 15g
- Lily bulb 15g
- Wheat 15g
- Pitted jujube 5 pieces
- Honey-fried licorice 5g
Principle
Ancients said “silk tree resolves anger, daylily forgets worry.” Daylily clears heat and relieves irritability and soothes liver depression; silk tree flower relieves stagnation and calms spirit; turmeric and cyperus move qi and relieve depression; lily, wheat, jujube, and licorice nourish heart and calm spirit. The formula soothes liver, relieves depression, and quiets heart and spirit.
Effects & uses
Suitable for liver qi stagnation with low mood—fullness in chest and hypochondrium, frequent sighing, irritability, poor sleep (syndrome differentiation required).
Method
- Grind all materials to powder, pack about 20g per cloth bag.
- Steep one bag in boiling water, covered, 10 minutes.
How to use
- Tea substitute, once daily.
Caution
Daylily must be dried and fully cooked; raw or undercooked contains colchicine and can poison. Use cautiously in pregnancy. Daily dietary prescription; not a substitute for medication—depression should prioritize psychiatric care.
