Ingredients

  • Peppermint 3-5g (dry)
  • 3-5 red dates (coreless)

Principle

Peppermint disperses wind and heat, soothes the liver and activates qi; red jujube nourishes qi, nourishes blood and tranquilizes the mind. Cooling and moisturizing, evacuating wind and heat, soothing liver and regulating qi, and invigorating qi in the middle (syndrome differentiation required). Fixed party names are more common in modern science, and the materials are often called "mint red jujube tea".

Effects & uses

It is suitable for dizziness, insomnia, emotional distress, and throat discomfort (to be differentiated) due to insufficient qi and blood and mild wind-heat or liver qi stagnation. It is also used as a daily tea to soothe the liver and relieve depression in spring and summer. It is not a substitute for counselling and medication.

Method

  1. Wash the red jujube, remove the core (or break it open), and wash the mint; put it in the same cup, brew it in boiling water, and cover for 3 to 10 minutes to develop color.
  2. It can be seasoned with honey. Reference variation: "Peppermint Buddha Hand Tea" in Zaozhuang Hospital of Northern Chinese Medicine contains 2g of peppermint, 1 red jujube, Buddha hand, and green tea (see each source for the dosage, which must be individualized).

How to use

  • Warm tea substitute, 1 dose per day.

Caution

Deficiency of cold in the spleen and stomach and constipation are not appropriate; physical deficiency and cold should not be excessive. Use mint with caution during menstruation and during pregnancy. Use red dates with caution for diabetes. Some data suggest that mint should not be used with warm foods such as lamb, lychee, and guiyuan. See also the common saying that mint is compatible with red dates, which requires syndrome differentiation. Daily dietary prescriptions are not a substitute for medication.
