Ingredients

  • Black wood ear fungus 15g
  • Red jujube 15 pieces
  • Rock sugar to taste

Principle

Black fungus nourishes blood and moistens dryness; jujube tonifies middle qi, nourishes blood, and calms the spirit. Steamed in a covered bowl, eat fungus and jujube and drink the liquid to tonify blood and supplement deficiency.

Effects & uses

Adjunct care for iron-deficiency anemia; public sources also mention hypertension, arteriosclerosis, bleeding stools, and heavy menstruation (syndrome differentiation required).

Method

  1. Soak fungus and jujube in warm water, rinse; place in a small bowl with water and rock sugar; steam 1 hour in a steamer.

How to use

  • Twice daily—eat fungus and jujube (with skin) and drink the broth.

Caution

Do not add rock sugar in diabetes. Those on anticoagulants should note fungus’s anticoagulant reputation. Not a substitute for medication; moderate to severe anemia requires medical care.
