Ingredients

  • Red jujube 2–5 pieces
  • Dried longan 3–5 pieces
  • Brown sugar to taste (optional)

Principle

Jujube tonifies middle qi, nourishes blood, and calms the spirit; longan tonifies heart and spleen and nourishes blood to calm the spirit. Both are warming—together they tonify qi and blood and calm heart and spirit, suited to qi and blood deficiency with heart–spleen dual deficiency (syndrome differentiation required).

Effects & uses

For sallow or pale complexion, fatigue, dizziness, palpitations, insomnia, forgetfulness, and cold hands and feet; also for daily care after menses, postpartum, chronic illness, and overwork with worry and late nights. Menopause with these patterns may use as adjunct (syndrome differentiation required). Not a substitute for standard treatment.

Method

  1. Rinse jujube, pit and slice; shell longan and dice; boil on high then simmer 5 minutes; brown sugar optional—or steep in boiling water covered 10–15 minutes.

How to use

  • Drink warm as tea, one serving daily. Prefer daytime; avoid large amounts before bed. Do not continue more than 15 days straight—pause several days after 1–2 weeks.

Caution

Avoid during common cold with fever. Not for excess fire or yin deficiency with internal heat (dry sore throat, mouth sores, dry stools, nosebleed). Use cautiously with damp-heat or phlegm-damp (thick greasy coating, bloating, sticky stools). Use cautiously in diabetes. Not for bloating or excess stomach acid. Pregnant women and children need physician or pharmacist guidance. Not a substitute for medication; anemia and insomnia need proper diagnosis.
