Ingredients

  • Notoginseng (sanqi) 3 g
  • Dried tangerine peel (chenpi) 3 g
  • Lean pork 200 g
  • Ginger 2 slices

Principle

Notoginseng activates blood, dispels stasis, reduces swelling, and stops pain; chenpi regulates qi, tonifies the spleen, and dries damp phlegm. The pair moves blood, disperses stasis, and moves qi to reduce swelling—for acute blood stasis with qi stagnation when effusion, swelling, and pain are obvious (syndrome differentiation required).

Effects & uses

Adjunct soup in the acute effusion phase when pain and effusion are prominent. Popular-science acute joint-injury diet cites quick relief of knee swelling and effusion without overly damaging upright qi (pattern required).

Method

  1. Blanch lean pork; simmer with notoginseng, chenpi, and ginger on low heat about 1 hour; season lightly with salt.

How to use

  • Drink the broth and eat the meat.

Caution

Contraindicated in pregnancy. Consult a physician if taking anticoagulants. Does not replace immobilization, medication, or rehabilitation for synovitis. Daily dietary food care is not a substitute for medication.
