Crucian Carp and Adzuki Bean Soup
Ingredients
- Adzuki bean 90g
- One crucian carp (under about 500g)
- Rice vinegar and raw oil as needed
Principle
Crucian carp is neutral and sweet, strengthens the spleen and drains damp; adzuki bean promotes urination and reduces swelling. Together they strengthen the spleen and drain water, suited to edema from spleen deficiency with damp excess.
Effects & uses
For leg swelling in older adults from declining spleen–kidney water metabolism; may also assist edema related to nephritis (syndrome differentiation required).
Method
- Clean the fish (remove viscera), rinse adzuki beans.
- Place beans and fish in a clay pot with equal parts water and rice vinegar plus a little raw oil.
- Simmer about 1 hour; drink the soup and eat fish and beans.
How to use
- One dose daily; seven days as one course.
Caution
Little or no salt. Avoid during gout flares (fish contains purines). Contraindicated if allergic to fish. Daily food-care only; not a substitute for medication.
