Ingredients

  • Ophiopogon 5–10g
  • Sterculia seed (pangdahai) 1–2 pieces

Principle

Maidong nourishes yin and generates fluid, moistens lung and clears heart; pangdahai clears heat, moistens lung, and opens the voice. Pangdahai gives quick throat relief; maidong enriches fluids—combined for stronger throat moistening.

Effects & uses

For lung dryness or yin-deficiency pharyngitis with dry sore throat, dry cough with little phlegm, hoarseness, or night cough; auxiliary relief from dry environment or voice strain (syndrome differentiation required).

Method

  1. Steep maidong and pangdahai in boiling water, covered 10 minutes.
  2. Drink after pangdahai swells.

How to use

  • One dose daily as frequent tea; do not exceed about 2 weeks continuously or about 800 ml daily.

Caution

Not for spleen-stomach deficiency cold or loose stools; not for wind-cold sore throat; use cautiously in pregnancy, lactation, or infants. Do not drink pangdahai long term as plain water. Not a substitute for medication.
