Ingredients

  • Hawthorn 10g
  • Ginger 3 slices
  • Tangerine peel (chenpi) 5g

Principle

From Food Therapy Materia Medica for Liver and Gallbladder Diseases. Hawthorn aids digestion, resolves accumulation, moves qi, and disperses stasis; ginger warms the middle and dispels cold; chenpi regulates qi, strengthens spleen, dries dampness, and transforms phlegm. The drink regulates qi, aids digestion, harmonizes stomach, and benefits gallbladder—targeting diet stagnation pattern (syndrome differentiation required).

Effects & uses

Suitable for chronic cholecystitis with right upper abdominal discomfort, epigastric distension, and nausea after greasy food or poor digestion (syndrome differentiation required).

Method

  1. Wash hawthorn, ginger, and chenpi; slice hawthorn and ginger.
  2. Pour boiling water; cover and steep 10–15 minutes.

How to use

  • Drink warm in place of tea.

Caution

Not suitable for excess stomach acid or heartburn. Contraindicated during acute attack or biliary colic (acidity may stimulate gallbladder contraction). Cholecystitis requires strict avoidance of large amounts of acidic food. Not a substitute for medication. Daily dietary food care.
