Ingredients

  • Stir-fried hawthorn 10g
  • Stir-fried malt 10g
  • Tangerine peel (chenpi) 5g

Principle

Hawthorn resolves meat stagnation; malt resolves grain and flour stagnation; chenpi regulates qi, strengthens spleen, dries dampness, and transforms phlegm. Together they resolve food stagnation, regulate qi, and strengthen spleen—suited to post-meal distension and poor appetite.

Effects & uses

Suitable for gastritis with food stagnation and qi stagnation—distension after overeating, belching, poor appetite; drinking after meals aids digestion and eases epigastric fullness (syndrome differentiation required).

Method

  1. Place the three herbs in a teapot.
  2. Steep in boiling water; cover 10–15 minutes.
  3. Re-steep until flavor fades.

How to use

  • Drink after meals as tea.

Caution

Use hawthorn with caution when stomach acid is high, especially in the elderly. Contraindicated in gastric ulcer (hawthorn stimulates acid and worsens ulcer burden). Not suitable in pregnancy. Daily dietary food care is not a substitute for medication.
