Ingredients

  • Fresh yam (or dried yam slices) 30g
  • Coix seed (yiyiren) 20g
  • Jujube 5 pieces
  • Rice 50g

Principle

Yam is neutral and sweet—gently tonifies lung, spleen, and kidney and strengthens spleen qi; coix seed strengthens spleen and drains damp, helping clear internal dampness and ease spleen-stomach burden. The congee is balanced and tonifies without being cloying.

Effects & uses

Suitable for gastritis with spleen-stomach weakness—poor appetite, post-meal distension, body heaviness, tending toward loose stools (syndrome differentiation required).

Method

  1. Soak coix seed 2 hours.
  2. Cook congee with rice and split jujubes.
  3. When nearly done, add yam cubes; simmer 15 minutes more.

How to use

  • Eat warm as part of daily staples; count rice toward daily staple intake.

Caution

Not suitable to eat in large amounts with excess stomach acid. Daily dietary food care is not a substitute for medication.
