Ingredients

  • Yam 30g
  • Glutinous rice 50g
  • Red jujubes 3–5

Principle

Glutinous rice is warming—tonifies lung, stomach, and kidney; its amylopectin aids digestion; yam supplements all three burners, tonifies qi, nourishes yin, and moistens dryness; red jujube tonifies spleen-stomach. The congee warms spleen-stomach and supplements qi and blood—suited to spleen-stomach deficiency-cold.

Effects & uses

Suitable for gastritis with spleen-stomach deficiency-cold—cold pain in the stomach, cold hands and feet, poor appetite (syndrome differentiation required).

Method

  1. Peel and chunk yam; pit jujubes.
  2. Cook congee with glutinous rice until thick and soft.

How to use

  • Eat warm while hot; count glutinous rice toward daily staple intake.

Caution

Glutinous rice is hard to digest when cold—always eat hot. Not suitable for excess stomach acid or stomach heat. About 3–5 jujubes per day is reasonable. Daily dietary food care is not a substitute for medication.
