Yam and Glutinous Rice Congee
Ingredients
- Yam 30g
- Glutinous rice 50g
- Red dates 3–5 pieces
Principle
Glutinous rice is warming and tonifies spleen-stomach; yam tonifies qi and nourishes yin; red dates tonify spleen-stomach. Warms spleen-stomach and tonifies blood, for deficiency-cold gastric ulcer recovery. Soft glutinous rice may reduce mechanical friction on mucosa when well cooked.
Effects & uses
For deficiency-cold gastric ulcer recovery with cold stomach pain, cold limbs, poor appetite (syndrome differentiation required).
Method
- Peel and cube yam; pit dates.
- Cook with glutinous rice until soft and thick.
How to use
- Eat while hot; count glutinous rice in daily staple intake.
Caution
Glutinous rice hardens when cold and is hard to digest—eat hot. Not if acid reflux is marked (glutinous rice may stimulate acid). Not for stomach heat pattern. Similar to gastritis yam–glutinous congee but stricter avoidance of irritation for ulcers. Daily food-care only; not a substitute for medication.
