Ingredients

  • Astragalus 15g
  • Yam 30g (fresh, peeled and cubed)
  • Japonica rice 50g

Principle

Astragalus tonifies qi, strengthens spleen, and promotes healing of chronic sores; yam mildly tonifies spleen-stomach and nourishes yin. Congee is mild and does not strongly stimulate acid, suited to staple food in ulcer recovery.

Effects & uses

For spleen-stomach deficiency cold or ulcer recovery with vague stomach pain, preference for warmth and pressure, fatigue, poor appetite (syndrome differentiation required). Clinical observations note TCM dietary support for deficiency-cold gastric ulcer.

Method

  1. Decoct astragalus in water about 20 minutes; strain.
  2. Add yam cubes and rice to the astragalus liquid with water; cook to congee.

How to use

  • Eat warm as breakfast or part of staples; count rice in daily grain intake.

Caution

Not during acute severe pain or obvious heartburn. Astragalus is warming; not for stomach heat (burning, foul breath, cold drinks preferred). Bleeding phase needs medical care, not diet alone. Daily food-care only; not a substitute for medication.
