Ingredients

  • Japonica rice 50–100g
  • Warm water as needed

Principle

Rice is dry-roasted until lightly scorched, then cooked into congee; pan-fried rice is mildly warming and balanced in nature, suitable as a transitional staple when the gut is fragile during diarrhea—nourishing the spleen, harmonizing qi, with minimal irritation.

Effects & uses

Suitable as a supportive staple during mild diarrhea recovery or when appetite is poor (syndrome differentiation required); aligns with the Yunnan Provincial Health Commission convalescent food-care approach “Nourishing Earth and Harmonizing Qi Congee.”

Method

  1. Dry-roast rice in a wok over low heat until the surface is lightly golden (do not burn).
  2. Add warm water and simmer on low heat for 20–30 minutes until the congee is soft and broken down.

How to use

  • Take warm; keep warm after eating; count toward daily staple intake.

Caution

Seek medical care for high fever, bloody stools, severe dehydration, or diarrhea not improving after 48 hours. In early acute damp-heat diarrhea with distension and thick yellow tongue coating, differentiate carefully—do not rely on pan-fried rice congee alone and delay treatment. Daily dietary food care is not a substitute for medication.
