Ingredients

  • Fresh yam 60g
  • Japonica rice 60g
  • Clarified butter (suyou) and white honey to taste

Principle

Yam is neutral and sweet—tonifies spleen and lung, stabilizes kidney and benefits essence; japonica rice tonifies middle qi. Cooked into congee, it moistens the lung, strengthens spleen, supplements qi, and stabilizes kidney—suited to daily care in diabetes with dual qi-yin deficiency or yin-yang deficiency.

Effects & uses

Suitable for diabetes with qi-yin or yin-yang deficiency—thirst, fatigue, sore weak lower back and knees, loose stools; also as a staple substitute when spleen-kidney qi is weak (syndrome differentiation required).

Method

  1. Cook japonica rice congee as usual.
  2. Peel yam into paste; stir-fry with clarified butter and white honey until set; crush with a spoon.
  3. Stir yam paste into the congee.

How to use

  • May be taken as a morning meal.

Caution

Yam contains starch—count toward staple intake; do not eat extra on top of planned carbs. Consult a physician if blood glucose is unstable. Daily dietary food care is not a substitute for hypoglycemic drugs.
