Ingredients

  • Coix seed (yimi) 20g
  • Adzuki beans 10g
  • Rice 50g
  • Dried tangerine peel pieces 3g (optional)

Principle

Coix strengthens spleen and drains damp; adzuki promotes urination and removes damp—2:1 ratio as congee; add tangerine peel near the end to move qi and transform phlegm. Emphasizes draining damp for fatty liver on a spleen-deficiency damp obstruction constitution.

Effects & uses

Suitable for phlegm-damp constitution fatty liver with heaviness, thick greasy tongue coating, and sticky stools (syndrome differentiation required).

Method

  1. Soak coix and adzuki 2 hours.
  2. Cook with rice until congee forms.
  3. Add tangerine peel and cook briefly before serving.

How to use

  • Eat warm as breakfast or part of staples; count toward daily staple intake.

Caution

Coix is slightly cold—those with cold constitution may stir-fry coix until lightly yellow first. Do not add much sugar. Daily dietary prescription; not a substitute for medication.
